Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oil is resigning after violent protests against corruption and social media shutdowns led by Gen Z protesters. Nepal’s Prime Minister was forced to resign after nearly 19 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the past two days of violent protests. The Prime Minister of Naples resigned today in the face of widespread protests and left Kathmandu in a military helicopter.
The main demand of this movement, known as the ‘Gen-Z Movement’, was for Oli to resign. The announcement of the Prime Minister’s resignation came hours after the Parliament building was set on fire in response to that demand.
Earlier, Nepali youth protests against government corruption and a decision to ban social media entered their second day. On Monday, 19 people were killed in police firing on the first day of the protests. A curfew was imposed that day. However, today, Tuesday, young people are protesting despite the curfew. They are even vandalizing and setting fire to the homes of various political leaders in the country.
Generation Z youths protested by surrounding the residences of political leaders and ministers in the capital Kathmandu and various districts on Tuesday. They threw bricks and stones at the leaders’ homes and set them on fire. Protesters got angry and set fire to the house of Communications and IT Minister Pratyush Subba Gurung and pelted bricks and stones at the residence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance. The protester also set fire and created violence in the residence of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who resigned last Monday, was also attacked.
The protesters are not stopping here, they are also creating violence of The residence of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Biswa Paudel in Bhaisepati was also attacked. When the protesters reached the residence of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Buranilkantha, they were stopped by security forces and the military. Apart from this, protesters also pelted bricks and stones at the Khumalta residence of Pushpakal Dahal, chairman of the opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre).
Local reporters said that despite the administration’s strict security measures, protesters are attacking the residences of the Chief Minister, provincial ministers and other leaders in various districts.
